(Music) Hello friends! Welcome to Visa2explore! This is your host, Harish Bali. I've reached Agra a short while ago. Although, I was served breakfast, while traveling from Delhi in Shatabdi train.... ...but I thought of eating my breakfast in Agra. I asked some locals here what do locals like to have in breakfast. So, I was told that the locals here love to eat Bedhai. Let me repeat myself, it is Bedhai, not Bedai, but Bedhai. So, some one referred me to this place in Pratappura.... ...which is a famous Bedhai shop named Deviram Sweets. So I've come for Bedhai breakfast here. Although they have a restaurant too upstairs. I went to check and saw the restaurant was empty, not a single customer at this hour. So, obviously, I feel people love to eat Bedhai like a quick bite while standing here. So, I am going in to eat Bedhai. From there, I will tell you how it is cooked and how is its taste. You get two pieces of Bedhai for Rs. 16 in a plate. I ordered only one piece, because I am also going to have lassi later on. With Bedhai, I got this potato curry, with a bit of curd in it. First, I am going to eat Bedhai without the curry. Very nice! Bedhai has a filling of dal (lentils) in it. Urad Dal (split bengal gram)! One should eat four pooris for a normal breakfast! But I am going to have just one because lassi will be very heavy. They also sell lassi here. Poori with lassi will awesome breakfast at Agra! The little bit of curd added to the potato curry is lending a delicious taste~! And I noticed that there is no large piece of potato in the curry. Potato bites are so fine that these go almost unnoticed. The curry has a uniform texture. So, it feels like we are eating potato curry, instead of vegetables. I'm loving it! If you ever come to Agra, I must tell you, you have to have breakfast here. You will enjoy your breakfast here. The quantity of spices in potato curry is on the higher side. It is strong! I might need to have a glass of water after this. But in any case, I am going to have lassi after this. There are two things special about this glass of lassi. One, it is served in this kullhad (mud pot). Second, look at this cream flowing from the top. Very nice! I had asked for little sugar to be put into this lassi.... ...Since I had no idea about the amount of sugar people prefer here,.... Now, I feel I should have asked for normal amount of sugar in it. It has less sugar, which was what I had asked for. Good taste! If you want to try the flavor of the food in a city.... ...breakfast is a good starting point. Right now, I am 10kms from Taj Mahal, in Shahganj area. The name of this road is Soron Katra. I have come here to eat a breakfast of Kachori and Jalebi. People in Agra prefer 3 dishes for breakfast - Bedhai, which I've already eaten. Now, kachori and jalebi were left. So, I've come to Soron Katra in Shahganj. Let us go to this famous shop. The name of this shop is Sattolala Kachori Wale. If you search for it on Google Maps, I'm sure, you will get the location of this place quite easily. There are two varieties of kachori available here - Dal kachori and (asks shopkeeper) aloo (potato) kachori. Dal and aloo kachoris. I am eating dal kachori right now. Kachori is quite reasonably priced. Rs. 7 for a single kachori, with potato curry. And a bit of curd on top. Very good! If you eat two kachoris and a few pieces of jalebi for breakfast, one is done for a while. By the way, this kachori has a filling of urad dal (black gram). But the quantity of urad dal is miinimal. If they had added some more dal, it would have been tastier. Though I am enjoying the kachori, but at the same time, I am enjoying the potato curry better. I think Agra residents eat a lot of chili in their food. This gentleman next to me vouches for the fact. So, they really like their spices and chilies. This also has a good amount of green chili. Though I enjoy green chili too. Nothing could be better than this after eating a lot of green chili in the potato curry. Jalebi! Jalebi is quite normal in taste! Nothing very special about this jalebi. This jalebi is just like any jalebi that you will get elsewhere in North India. But Kachori, I liked it. You know why I am enjoying this normal jalebi? It is because I've had a lot of green chili in the curry. But anyways, I am enjoying this as a combination. In search of Agra special breakfast, I've reached Dayal Road, at Bhagat Halwai. This place is at a distance of about 7kms from Agra Cantonment area. I plan to eat Bedhai poori for breakfast today. In Agra, wherever breakfast is served, Bedhai poori is definitely available everywhere. This shop is quite popular, I asked a local. So, today's breakfast will be had here. This combination that I''m eating costs Rs. 12/-. If I had ordered two pooris, instead of one, then the cost would have been Rs. 24/-. Now what they've done is they have served Kashiphal (squash gourd) with the poori. Those customers who don't eat garlic or onion will enjoy this dish. There is potato curry (aloo ki sabzi) with it. I can see paneer (cottage cheese) pieces in it as well. It is good! Like I had realized yesterday that in Agra, people love chili on the higher side..... ....similarly, I am finding this to be extra spicy. Personally, I enjoy chili and spices, so I don't have any problem. Good taste! Now it is time for Bedhai poori. The kind of Bedhai poori I ate day before yesterday.... ...I tried to understand its cooking procedure there. During the cooking procedure, they add urad dal as filling into the poori. Now one can get this dish anywhere in India. But somehow, this poori is a preferred breakfast item especially here in Agra. It isn't cooked at home. People eat it outside and leave for work right after. This poori is also a good combination with the seetaphal. Usually, we assume that if a dish doesn't have onion, it won't taste as good... ...but I don't feel like that at all while eating this seetaphal. They also have a small restaurant set up inside. One can also eat sitting inside. But since I had to eat just one poori, I thought I will have it standing here. If you come to Agra and stay for the night.... ...you can explore this place as a good breakfast option. It has proper neatness and hygiene. And if you find it difficult to locate this place, you can search for Bhagat Halwai in Google Maps.... ...you will be guided to the right place. I have noticed that generally, people in Agra do not prefer tea with a breakfast like this. The acceptable breakfast combination here is Bedhai poori or kachori with jalebi. Therefore, after finishing this, I will definitely eat a couple of pieces of Jalebi. Usually, I don't eat jalebi for breakfast because it is never served anywhere in Delhi for breakfast. But here, people eat jalebi only for breakfast. This breakfast was really too spicy even for me. I really needed this jalebi. This jalebi serves as a combination with the spicy breakfast. But if I talk about standalone jalebi, then I would not appreciate the jalebi..... ...that I've eaten at these 3 places. Sorry! Not 3 but only 2 places, where I ate jalebi. Standalone jalebi, not that great! But after eating the spicy potatoes and Bedhai poori, this jalebi tastes just delicious. Right now, I am at the Favvara Chowk, which means Fountain Chowk. This place is 3kms away from Agra Fort. Someone gave me a reference to a particular shop here. Munna Halwai! That I can enjoy Bedhai poori there. I will have to turn right from that Square back there! Come on! I will take you there. I have been eating Bedhai poori and potato curry for breakfast for 3-4 days now. So, by now, I am aware that the poori has urad dal filling inside. The main thing is that the taste of potato curry is different everywhere. Its good! The poori is soft inside and crispy outside. Here, they haven't added small cubes of paneer to the potato curry.... ....like I had eaten yesterday, yeah yesterday, at Bhagat Halwai's. But taste is good! Here, I am finding poori to be better tasting than the potato curry. Poori is a little different at this place. This area is quite crowded. So, if you plan to come to this place, do come either by auto-rickshaw or manual rickshaw. It will be difficult to come here by car. Right now, since it is early morning, it is less crowded. So, what we did is we parked our car in front of one of the shops, which have not opened yet. But good place! The name of this shop is Munna Lal MIthai Wale. Its address is given in the video description. You can check from there. The jalebi was sold out here, but in order to keep up the combination..... ....I ordered some halwa after eating Bedhai Poori. Nevertheless, the breakfast here is so spicy that one needs to eat something sweet afterwards. I think this is the reason why people here love jalebi so much. This moong dal (green gram) halwa is made in Desi Ghee. In fact, the poori I ate here earlier, was also fried in desi ghee. So, maybe that is the reason why I liked the poori here better.... ....in comparison to the poori fried in refined oil. Overall, good combination! Yesterday, I was discussing with some locals about breakfast options other than Bedhai poori. Some of them suggested eating paranthas at Anokha paranthas. Although, reaching here took me some searching and quite some time. But let me tell you the easier way to reach here. There is The Gateway Hotel here.... ...hardly at a distance of a kilometer from the Taj Mahal. And they operate this stall right opposite the Gateway Hotel. This is where you get paranthas. I've ordered mix-vegetable paratha for myself. There is one special thing about this paratha, which I have just noticed. They also serve 7-8 varieties of pickle here. So, maybe it is the attraction of the wide variety of pickles that so many people eat here. I was in double-mind when I reached here about eating here or not. This place looked a bit unhygienic to me. But now, so many people are eating here.... ...and a lot of people referred me to this place. So, I had to try the paranthas here. Now, the mix-veg paratha is here. I've got pickles.... ...I asked for two varieties... Veg achar (pickle), nimbu (lemon) achar, green chutney, kashi. And raita. The price of this parantha is Rs. 80/-. Single paratha for Rs. 80/-. The paratha looks crispy from outside. And I saw myself while it was being made that the mix vegetables filling was heavily loaded into it. I will take some achar with it because I want to eat this paratha with achar only. One thing is clear to me. Achar is the star ingredient in this place. The paratha becomes tastier when eaten with the 7-8 varieties of pickles served here. I won't call this paratha exceptionally great or exceptionally good. Paratha is good! But achaar is exceptionally good! So, it is the achar that is driving all the fan following for this paratha. Boondi raita is average. If this paratha is served to me in a restaurat,.... ...I might enjoy it more... ....because when we see the paratha being cooked like this in front of our eyes..... ...we automatically devalue it by 10-20% in terms of flavor. But assuming if I don't see behind the scenes operation right in front of me.... ...I'm enjoying this. While eating here, I noticed that most of the people eating here are taxi drivers. In my experience, taxi drivers or truck drivers.... ...are experts in finding out a place which serves a decent combination of price and taste. If you want to explore so many varieties of pickles, you can come and eat here. By the way, they also have a dhaba behind this building. I asked the owner why he doesn't cook inside the dhaba. He said for the past 15-20 years, he has been cooking like this by the roadside. It helps in attracting customers passing by as well. Someone might miss out the dhaba because it is behind a tree. If you come to Agra, do try the breakfast combination of Bedhai poori and jalebi. I am sure that you will love it too. Please tell me your opinion about this video. We shall wait for your comments.
